Science Development Foundation and “Elsevier” signed Memorandum on cooperation

On April 24th, 2018, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) has been signed between the Science Development Foundation under the President of Azerbaijan and renowned “ELSEVIER” – one of the world's largest companies on scientific information, analytical research and publications in the world.  

The MOC has been signed between the Executive Director of the Science Development Foundation under the President of Azerbaijan Dr. Elchin Babayev and the Vice President of the “ELSEVIER”, Mr. Haest Felix. The signing ceremony was also attended by the regional director for Central Asia and Azerbaijan Ms. Aliya Ospanova.

First, Executive Director of the Science Development Foundation Elchin Babayev noted in his speech that, at the present stage important steps are being taken to develop science in Azerbaijan. He said that today the country's scientists are tasked with turning Azerbaijan into a serious scientific center in the region: "To accomplish this task, scientists and specialists should take an active part in various grant projects and publish their scientific results in authoritative journals of the world."

Vice-President of "Elsevier" Haest Felix emphasized the significance of the cooperation among two organizations and informed participants about the Elsevier. It was noted that Elsevier, founded in Holland in 1880 offers scientific researchers around 2,500 journals and more than 33,000 electronic books covering digital solutions with web databases like ScienceDirect, Scopus, Elsevier Research Intelligence, Clinical Key and well-known publications such as The Lancet and Cell. Elsevier belongs to the RELX Group of companies. RELX provides various solutions for the sectors of science, health, law and risk, and is one of the world's leading providers of information solutions. “Scopus” - academic database that has the widest scope in the world, with the help of bibliometric tools it promotes tracking, analysis and visualization of scientific research investigators. It includes more than 22,000 titles of more than 5,000 books on technology, health, social, humanities and arts.

In previous years, SDF and "Elsevier" carried on a longstanding and fruitful cooperation and “SCOPUS Prize Azerbijan-2016” joint prize award was the successful outcome of this effective cooperation

In accordance with the memorandum, the parties will hold joint trainings (for academics, editors of scientific journals, employees of the Foundation, etc.), organizing various events (roundtables, trainings, seminars, and conferences), cooperation between science-technology, innovation and industry / business to consolidate their efforts to strengthen their commitment to technology transfer and commercialization.

The Memorandum will also create opportunities for strengthening the ties of science, technology, innovation and business.
